A Fairy Tale Carnival

Between August 12 and 18

August 1st, 2007

Provincetown’s never sleepy in the summer, but during Carnival Week the town erupts in celebration. The whole length of Commercial Street is transformed into a theater stage, with spectacular costumes, high drama and an endless cast of characters, all in the mood for revelry. It is Provincetown’s version of Mardi Gras and it is the one week of the summer when the town’s wild eccentricity and tone of liberation have their fullest play.

The week will reach a climax in fanfare on August 16 during the annual Parade, which always boasts a pageant of floats, outrageous costumes and beads galore.

Carnival Week 2007, which has the dream-come-true theme of “Fairy Tales,” will take place between August 12 and 18, with many a gala scheduled, as well as the famous Carnival Parade and other favorite annual events.

During the week, there will be parties at almost every major Provincetown venue, starting off with a “Masked Ball” at the Boatslip Resort on August 12, where the Carnival’s King and Queen will be crowned, and continuing with “Cinderella’s If the Shoe Fits Ball” at the A-House on August 14, “Rapunzel’s Really Rocking Dance Party” at Club Purgatory on August 16 and a “Beauty and the Beast Ball” at The Crown and Anchor’s Paramount Nightclub on August 17.

This year “The Love Goddess” Judy Tenuta will be the parade’s Grand Marshall. She will also perform the Carnival 2007 Concert to bring the week to certain happy ending on August 18.

Other highlights of Carnival 2007 include the annual Drag Bingo night at the UU Meeting House, a “Peter Pan’s Enchanted Boat Cruise” with Bay State Cruise Company and an “Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves Casino Night” at the Boatslip.

Carnival Week 2007 is sponsored by the Provincetown Business Guild in association with Bacardi Peach Red. To find out more about the week’s schedule or to buy tickets to keynote events, go to www.ptown.org.
