The True Meaning of Family
The 15th Family Week - July 31 to Aug. 7
July 25th, 2010
Family gets celebrated in a lot of American discourse, but far too often it’s so narrowly defined that it excludes many of the real families that exist in this country.
 | Family Week has become the largest national gathering of LGBT families and their friends in the nation. |
|
In such a setting, events along the lines of Provincetown’s Family Week, which takes place this year from July 31 to August 7, are especially important.
Two gay dads founded Family Week with a backyard barbecue back in 1996. Since then, the event has developed into the largest national gathering of LGBT families and their friends in the nation.
With a robust schedule of events, the event gives LGBT families an opportunity to celebrate their experiences in a week of fun on the Outer Cape.
This year families attending Family Week can look forward to plenty of beach fun, pajama parties and theater classes for the kids, parent workshops and more.
Highlights this year include a Family Unity and Pride Parade, a benefit for the Family Equality Council with star comedian Kate Clinton, a Family Beach Picnic and Campfire with s’mores and stargazing and a Clambake at The Crown and Anchor.
Meanwhile, the days are marked by a full schedule of workshops and programming for kids of all ages, organized by the Family Equality Council, Think Theater and Colage. There will also be special events to celebrate multiculturalism and diversity.
