Come for Support, Personal Growth and Fun!

October 21st, 2013

People flock to Provincetown because in this special place, they can be themselves, no matter who they are, in an atmosphere of peace, safety and acceptance. That sense of being is inspired in the many festivals and themed events, including two upcoming events that are long-standing

Dunham, called “everyone's favorite ex-nun, genderqueer, nerd comic”, has performed at clubs around the country

traditions!

Celebrating it's 38th year, the Fantasia Fair (October 20-27th) is a week-long transgender event scheduled for October 20-27th! Part conference, part social gathering, the Fair is a “full immersion” experience, meaning that attendees can and usually do spend an entire week 24/7 presenting their gender as they wish. The “Fan Fair” is the oldest and longest-running event of its kind, and every year the Fair grows in its scope, character, and assistance to the gender explorer. Fantasia Fair continues to be the leading annual program promoting a gender-variant individual's ability to thrive in real-life situations.

Each and every day of the Fair offers activities and events to help you and entertain you. There are workshops in the morning and afternoon, a Keynote speaker following lunch, and special events each evening. You'll learn from community leaders, helping professionals, and your peers in formal and informal situations. You will be fascinated by the topics, which range from gender theory to hair removal to wig care to speaking in a feminine voice... couple find support, friendship and caring, and enjoy the opportunity to participate in workshops that explore and recognize the ups and downs of a relationship with a transgender partner.

With over 90 scheduled events during the week, there is something for everybody! There are workshops, receptions, banquets, a fashion show, follies, ghost tour, comedy, and music!
One great way to kick off the week is the Free Concert with comic Kelli Dunham, and singer Namoli Brennet at the Boatslip Resort on the 21st at 7:30 pm. Dunham, called “everyone's favorite ex-nun, genderqueer, nerd comic”, has performed at clubs around the country, been seen on Showtime and Discovery, and has just released her third comedy CD, “Why is the Fat One Always Angry?” She's funny, she's tender, and she's real.

Dubbed “one the best folk-rock artists in the country" by the Tucson Weekly, Namoli Brennet has been touring with her own brand of moody and inspiring folk since 2002. A four-time Outmusic award nominee who was recently named in the inaugural Trans 100 list, Namoli was also the recipient of the Tucson Folk Festival Songwriting Award, and her music has been featured on NPR, PBS and in films including the Emmy-award winning documentary "Out in the Silence", which details the struggle of a gay teen growing up in rural Pennsylvania. Brennet is currently working on her 11th CD with a release date of fall 2014. It's a great way to start a week of personal growth, love and support and freedom to be who you are!

Who said you can't have fun if you're sober? From October 23-27th, Provincetown will host its 26th Annual Serenity by the Sea conference, celebrating another year of recovery, unity, and service for the LGBT community, their friends and families, and indeed any person in recovery! The beauty of our natural environment provides an idyllic setting for five amazing days of 12 Step meetings, 16 new workshops on Friday, and fun activities including a marathon Bingo (with prizes!), a cabaret, a sober Costume Ball Dance, a 12-mile National Seashore Bike Ride on Saturday, a 3-mile fun run through town on Sunday, and more. All individuals in recovery are welcome at meetings under the big tent at the Provincetown Inn. Our little town offers a dynamic setting for our exciting, friendly, and diverse weekend full of recovery, growth and spirituality. Many folks come early and stay late. The strong recovery community has plenty of room for your experience, strength, and hope, so come share!
