On May 1 the new Provincetown Library Knitting Group will begin meeting every Wednesday night in the Bowsprit Room on the second level from 6 to 8 pm. No experience is necessary to join this ongoing program, and free knitting needles and yarn will be provided while supplies last. Beginners will be offered personalized training to acquire the skills needed to knit beautiful and creative clothing, home accessories, and gifts. While learning innovative new techniques, the group will also focus on weekly projects including creating pieces for charitable organizations and planning future trips to knitting conferences. Kathleen Brunelle-In 1876 wealthy Bostonian Pierson Beebe chose a secluded hill in Falmouth, Massachusetts, as the spot to build his summer cottage, Highfield Hall. The following year, his brother James Arthur Beebe began construction next door on his own mansion, Tanglewood. The Beebe Woods and the surrounding buildings do not simply belong to the history of one wealthy Boston family. Rather, the land that they preserved, the architecture they created and the cultural activities they promoted are deeply rooted in Falmouth’s history. Join Brunelle as she narrates the remarkable history of these treasured Falmouth landmarks and once again wanders the historic rooms of Highfield Hall.

The Children's Organic Gardening Project offers local kids the opportunity to learn organic gardening experientially. Through collaboration between the new Resident Services Program (at Province Landing) & the Provincetown Public Library, the gardening program is available to all children between the ages of 5 - 16 years old. Children will begin by selecting and starting seeds in mini green houses constructing a composting site, tilling and preparing soil in raised bed gardens and transferring the sprouted seedlings to garden beds they have prepared outside the library.

The Thursday Morning Community Walk/Run and Coffee Hour has returned as an official part of the Provincetown Fitness Challenge! Our group will meet in the library lobby weekly on Thursday mornings at 8:30, and will be directly followed by a coffee/ conversation hour in the Marc Jacobs Reading Room. All experience levels are welcome to join, enjoy a run or walk, and get fit! Have a dog? Bring your pet along and get him some exercise too! The run is free of charge, and open to all comers. Complimentary coffee from Wired Puppy is provided each week at the conclusion of the walk/run.

Grades: 1-4 Join us on Monday afternoon each week for our new after school enrichment program: Eco System Club. This fall, the program will focus on the creation and maintenance of a brand new fish tank, complete with an assortment of different undersea creatures and plant life. Students will be responsible for different tasks such as feeding and cleaning while also completing fun weekly activities designed to empower them with a greater knowledge of their project. Transportation to and from the Library will be provided by the Provincetown Public School System. Born

With the holidays fast approaching, the Provincetown Public Library is getting in the giving spirit with our new Food for Fines program that benefits both patrons and our community members in need. Any Provincetown CLAMS card holder with late fees on their account will be wiped clean by donating a non-perishable food item to our display at the circulation desk. Those patrons without fines are also encouraged to give! All food items will be donated to the Provincetown Methodist Church Food Pantry on December 23!

Provincetown Public Press. Using new design & publishing software, the Provincetown Public Press will enable both authors and artists a low-cost solution to distributing their work using iBook and EPUB formats. A selection panel comprised of library staff & local experts will judge all submissions. We will seek to publish between ten & twenty original works in its initial year of operation. In addition to assisting selected authors with design, layout, and marketing of works, the imprint will provide ISBN numbers and the tools to necessary to create a fully optimized iBook or EPUB publication. We will accept submissions until April 30, 2013.

To welcome our foreign seasonal workers to Provincetown, the Library will begin holding weekly Thursday Morning Skype Sessions this May. Before the Library's 10:00 am opening, patrons will have access to computers complete with headsets, webcams, and the popular worldwide messaging program Skype in order to help them stay in touch with friends and family back home. This program will be offered free of charge, and coffee will be served during the 75 minutes of computer access time.
