Borodin’s defining Russian epic, famous for its Polovtsian Dances, comes to the Met for the first time in nearly 100 years. Dmitri Tcherniakov’s new production is a brilliant psychological journey through the mind of its conflicted hero, with the founding of the Russian nation as the backdrop. Star bass-baritone Ildar Abdrazakov takes on the monumental title role, with Gianandrea Noseda conducting.

THE LIST tells the story of Kirk Johnson, a modern-day Oskar Schindler who is fighting to save Iraqis whose lives are in danger because they worked for the U.S. government and military to help rebuild Iraq. After leading reconstruction teams in Baghdad and Fallujah for the United States, Kirk discovers that many of his Iraqi friends and colleagues are being targeted as “collaborators with the enemy.”

Peering down at the damp, shivering fur ball, she grabs her cell phone and makes a call, setting in motion a story about the otter’s struggle for survival and humans’ efforts to protect an iconic species. Combining documentary and dramatic narrative techniques, OTTER 501 chronicles the remarkable, true story of an orphaned baby otter who was washed ashore.

Interspersed with panel and audience discussions with scientists and oceanographers: John Chisholm, Heather Marshall, John Madelman. In this portion of the festival we ask the questions: What role do shark scientists play in educating the public and promoting conservation? How do you work to overcome public perceptions? What are the challenges you encounter when studying sharks?

Roxbury Repertory Theater brings us the Pulitzer Prize winning drama A Soldier’s Play, an incisive exploration of racial tensions and ambiguities that gives no easy answers and assigns no simple blame. When someone kills the black sergeant of a black platoon, their white superior, Captain Taylor, fears the worst. In 1944 Louisiana, there is a good chance that the murderer is the local Klan or a white officer. But when a black captain is assigned to investigate the slaying, Taylor is certain that the army is looking to cover-up the truth.
