Geoffrey Doig-Marx's dance company performing.
Elan Dance Festival
At the UU Meeting House on August 9
By Kahrin Deines
August 8th, 2008
When it comes to art, Provincetown nearly has it all. Painters, sculptors, drag performers, comedians, printmakers, musicians, vocalists – the list goes on.
 | Started by the choreographer Geoffrey Doig-Marx, the Elan Awards Program honors choreographers who have brought new vision to the art form. |
|
Dance, though, is often harder to come by, which is just one reason why you shouldn’t miss the Elan Summer Dance Festival taking place on August 9 at the U.U. Meeting House.
But it’s also a must-see because the work of five stellar dance companies will be on view in one showing.
The five companies are Synthesis Dance Project, BoSoma Dance Company, Link Dance Company, Contrapose Dance and Urbanity Dance Project. All hail from either New York City or Boston.
Although this is the first time the festival will take place in Provincetown, it is part of an ongoing annual program known as the Elan Awards.
Started by the choreographer Geoffrey Doig-Marx, the Elan Awards Program honors choreographers who have brought new vision to the art form.
Doig-Marx is also the creative director of The Mantis Project Dance Company, which he started in 1996 after several years of touring.
The Elan Summer Dance Festival will take place on August 9 from 12 to 8 p.m. in front of the Unitarian-Universalist Meeting House. It is open to the public.
