Video Party at Schoolhouse
Found Footage, Video Diaries, Ambient Pieces and More
By Kahrin Deines
August 24th, 2008
When in comes to art, Provincetown’s best known for the still arts – paintings, drawings, sculptures, the written word. But sometimes you’ll find galleries here venturing into the wild world of video or performance art, and on August 29 that’s what will be happening at the Schoolhouse Gallery.
 | The Video Party will take place from 7:30 to 10 p.m. at the Schoolhouse Gallery. |
|
The event, a Video Party, will feature a little bit of everything – animations, narrative and documentary videos, found footage, personal video diaries and ambient pieces.
All in all, more than 30 short videos will be screened at the party, which will run from 7:30 to 10 p.m.
While most of the videos will be shown in a makeshift screening room, there will also be some individual viewing stations and a few outdoor projections on the façade of the Schoolhouse building.
Painters Mark Adams and Jen Bradley are curating the event.
A Video Party also took place last year, and it was a hit, with hundreds in attendance throughout the evening.
At the same time, the gallery’s current show of work by Lora Brody, Mike Carroll, Marty Davis, Tom Nozkowski, Doug Padgett and George Perkins will also be on view.
The Schoolhouse Gallery is housed in a historic building that was built in 1944 to replace a series of one-room schools throughout the town. Until the Great Depression, it continued to serve as an elementary school, but later it became an arts school.
Over the years, it has been home to many galleries, and is now known for its exhibits of photography, painting and printmaking.
