''Shakespeare's Ghost'' - Two Nights

At the Provincetown Theater

September 4th, 2008

Shakespeare was incredibly prolific – more than 30 plays, 154 sonnets, and numerous poems bear his name. Nonetheless, as with many great writers, even more has been written about his life and the meaning of his work than he himself penned.

“Shakespeare’s Ghost” will be performed on September 12 and 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Provincetown Theater.

But what if the bard himself were to come back to set the record straight?

That’s the question that will be entertained when actor J.T. Turner performs his one-man show “Shakespeare’s Ghost” at the Provincetown Theater on September 12 and 13.

Turner, based in Ipswich, is a professional actor and storyteller, and involved in many artistic projects.

In 2007 he started “The Actors Company,” the performance group that is presenting his appearance as Shakespeare in Provincetown.

The company also stages a mix of musicals, dramas, comedies, kids’ shows and more at the West End Theater in Gloucester.

For “Shakespeare’s Ghost,” Turner will perform selections from “Romeo and Juliet,” “The Tempest,” “Richard the Third,” “Midsummer Night’s Dream,” “Henry V,” “As You Like It” and more.

As the bard, he will also comment on his life and works, imagining just what the great playwright might have to say after haunting theaters where his work has been staged for more than 400 years.

Turner is also the artistic director of Moonlight Productions, a non-profit, multi-generational theater that uses the stage as a form of outreach to kids and teens.

“Shakespeare’s Ghost” will be performed on September 12 and 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Provincetown Theater. On September 13, there will also be a matinee performance at 2 p.m. Tickets for the performance cost $25 and can be purchased by visiting www.newprovincetownplayers.org or by calling 800.791.7487.
