Give the Gift of Art
Local Galleries Offer Stores of Special Gifts
By Kahrin Deines
December 1st, 2008
Watching someone close open up the perfect gift as you wait for their expression to light up with revelation has to be a holiday favorite for most people. Finding that perfect gift, though, is no easy matter. In fact, hours can be lost in trips from one shop to the next during the hunt.
 | From November 29 to January 2, the Bowersock Gallery is presenting an exhibition of “Small Works,” which are an ideal size for gift giving. |

Art, though, suffused as it always is with some kind of meaning, can turn the quest for a special gift into a pleasure, especially if you’re shopping in Provincetown, where both galleries and artists abound.
For the holiday season, a number of galleries in Provincetown are offering special exhibits and art sales.
From November 29 to January 2, the Bowersock Gallery is presenting an exhibition of “Small Works,” which are an ideal size for gift giving. The exhibit will feature artwork in a variety of mediums and prices, from $32 to $1,000. The artists represented include Jane Kaufmann, Michael Palmer, Lauren Pollaro and Jeanne McCartin, among many others.
Meanwhile, the Lyman-Eyer Gallery is offering a “Holiday Online Fine Art Auction” for those who may not be able to make it to land’s end to do their shopping.
The auction will feature more than 32 lots by 17 different artists, including gallery favorites such as Jeannie Motherwell, Chuck Anzalone, Robert Adamcik, and Steve Walker. The lots run across a wide range of mediums, from still life to sculpture, and cover many subject matters.
A number of smaller works that could be meaningful holiday gifts are also on display at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum until January 11. The works are on display as part of one of the museum’s frequent “members open” exhibitions, which are juried exhibits of work by members of the art association.
To find out more about what is happening at Provincetown galleries during the holiday season, browse the gallery listings at the top of this Web page. Both the Bowersock Gallery and the Lyman-Eyer Gallery can also be visited online at www.bowersockgallery.com and www.lymaneyerart.com.
