Everybody needs an art getaway. Artists just happen to call it an imperative. But no matter who you are, a little planning is required to set in motion the spontaneous plunge.

Provincetown, as one of America’s oldest and most dynamic art colonies, offers rich choices, whatever your creative goals.
For summer 2009, three major Provincetown arts organizations have already released schedules of classes and workshops that are sure to feed many a creative flame.
The Fine Arts Work Center, founded by the likes of Robert Motherwell and Stanley Kunitz, offers an extensive range of weekend and weeklong workshops every summer from June to August. The workshops, which run from the literary to the visual, are limited to small class sizes that create a setting for immersion and interaction.
This year the center has organized a schedule that includes workshops in prose, poetry, photography, printmaking and studio arts. To check out their list of summer workshops, visit www.fawc.org.
Also well known for its spring and summer arts classes is the nearby Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill.
Castle Hill’s workshops have already begun, and include a wide range of ceramics classes that cannot be found anywhere else on the Outer Cape.
The center is also offering classes in encaustics, fabric dying, travel writing, papermaking, jewelry making and traditional studio arts. Learning opportunities are available for all ages and skill levels in its art workshop lineup, which can be explored at www.castlehill.org.
Perhaps better known for its exhibits, the Provincetown Art Association and Museum presents a superb selection for those looking for creative stimulation as well.
This summer the Museum School is offering more than 70 workshops between June and September, including classes on art and ecology, art history, computer art, mixed media forms, drawing and painting. Off-site workshops are also being offered with a number of established Cape Cod artists in their studios.
