Explore New Mediums
Through the Castle Hill Spring Workshop Series
February 14th, 2010
Usually it is said that Provincetown became an art colony because of its beauty, its isolation and the special light of the Outer Cape. But there is also something in the gathering of artists in one spot that has created a kind of creative momentum here.
 | The center’s spring workshop series runs from March through May, with a variety of 2- to 10-session classes available on both weekdays and weekends. |
|
In fact, if you have any kind of artistic leanings, it’s almost hard not to follow them once you’re here. Despite the fact that the population dwindles during the winter, readings, performances, workshops and openings occur nearly every week. Meanwhile classes are offered year-round in myriad mediums for both advanced artists and novices alike.
One such class series is about to begin at the Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill.
The center’s spring workshop series runs from March through May, with a variety of 2- to 10-session classes available on both weekdays and weekends.
Some of the offered classes include encaustic painting, figure drawing, Raku firing, wood kiln firing, printmaking, landscape painting, tile making, poetry and more.
Established artists, many of who live on the Outer Cape, are able to share their knowledge through Castle Hill’s workshop series. Caroll Odell, who has exhibited widely and operates a gallery in Chatham, along with Gail Browne, Mike Carroll, Cathy Skowrun and Heather Bruce are just a few of the artists participating in the spring series.
Castle Hill also operates a year-round Print Co-Op that has three relief presses and a Ceramics Cooperative.
Classes are available for both beginners and more advanced students, as well as for adults and kids.
To find out more about the Castle Hill spring workshop series, call 508.349.7511 or visit www.castlehill.org. The center is located at 10 Meetinghouse Road in Truro.
