One-Two-Three New Exhibits
At the Provincetown Art Association and Museum
February 20th, 2010
The creative process itself is on display at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum through a new exhibit highlighting the many moments of inspiration that culminate in a work of art.
 | The art association’s membership has also brought forth a number of works on paper for a juried exhibition. |
|
Titled “Drawings, Studies and Final Works,” the exhibit features visual studies in painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture that were created before a final work. Included in the lineup of 40 pieces are two small bronzes created by Chaim Gross in advance of the final works that bask in the museum’s outdoor sculpture garden.
The museum’s executive director Christine McCarthy curated the exhibit, which is on display until March 7.

Also on display is an exhibit of figurative drawings created by participants in the museum’s Curating Program, which brings educators and students into contact with the process of creating art, many for the first time. For the exhibit, nine educators from a variety of disciplines learned about the history of figurative art and then created their own drawings of a live model. They also chose inspirational works from the museum’s collection and used creative writing exercises to explore their connection with them.
The final exhibition, on display until March 7, includes their artwork and creative texts, along with the works they chose from the collection.
Meanwhile, the art association’s membership has also brought forth a number of works on paper for a juried exhibition. The more than 40 works are on display until March 28, highlighting yet another important part of sustaining creativity – a supportive community of passionate artists of every level.
