Ptown actors perform in Mississippi TW Festival

''The Case of the Crushed Petunias''

August 26th, 2010

Provincetown actors Braunwyn Jackett, Aaron Tone, Brian Carlson and Sasha Curran will be reprising their roles from last year's Provincetown Tennessee Williams Festival production of "The Case of the Crushed Petunias" when they travel to the Columbus, Mississippi, Tennessee Williams Festival in early Sept. accompanied by director Patrick Falco.

It so happens that this year's theme for the 5th Annual Provincetown Tennessee William Theater Festival, September 23-26 is ''Under the Influence.''

They will perform at the festival on Sept. 7-9 at 11:30 a.m. at the Rosenzweig Arts Center.

"The Case of the Crushed Petunias" was written in 1956 and is the story of Dorothy Simple, a woman trapped in Primandproper, Massachusetts. An unexpected visit from LIFE Inc. helps her break free from her dreary life. The play, a short relatively unknown play by Tennessee Williams was written in 1941.

It so happens that this year's theme for the 5th Annual Provincetown Tennessee William Theater Festival, September 23-26 is "Under the Influence." The whole Provincetown TW Festival, for five years now, can claim to be under the continuing influence of Columbus, Mississippi, the town in eastern Mississippi where Tennessee Williams was born.

"The Case of the Crushed Petunias" is the third time the Provincetown festival been invited to bring a play to Columbus and its Williams celebration. It's a long way from the storefront on Commercial Street, where Williams set "Petunias," to the heart of Dixie, but both Columbus and Provincetown share a connection to the playwright who was born there and discovered himself here.
