We should all know by now that exercising is not just about weight loss or having a toned body. Numerous new studies have claimed that exercise may be the fountain of youth.

Exercise may also provide numerous health benefits and may possibly prevent life threatening disease. In fact there are currently over 30 health benefits to regular exercise. Recent studies have shown that exercise may not only be good for the body, but the mind as well, including improved focus.
We are bombarded with health messages from the $44 billion dollar nutrition, fitness and wieght loss industries. From the morning news to late night infomercials, everyone seems to have a plan for you to lose weight and lead a healthy lifestyle.
Yet obesity, which has been linked to diabetes, cancer and heart disease is currently being classified as an epidemic.
The fitness and health options for average consumers are overwhelming, and often inaccurate. In fact, in a billion dollar industry of trends that seem to come and go quicker than you can tie your sneakers, it turns out that one of the easiest, safest and free forms of exercise is walking.
A twenty to thirty minute walk can provide many of the health benefits of regular exercise. A brisk walk increases your intake of oxygen, strengthens your heart , improves circulation and lowers blood pressure.
Walking also slows development of degenerative joint disease, and stops loss of bone mass in osteoporosis. Walking reduces stress and, in as little as eight minutes, enchances your mood. You can also expext to sleep more deeply and to look and feel younger.
Walking outdoors exposes you to more sunlight which increases your Vitamin D production. In the colder months our bodies burn more calories to stay warm, and besides, fresh air is always prefered.
Provincetown and Cape Cod have some of the most beautiful places on the east coast to walk. Explore the vast beauty of winter on the Cape, and begin taking control of your health by simply putting one foot in front of the other.
A free walking group will begin Sunday @ 11:00 a.m. on Nov. 18th.
