Discover the Secrets of a Fall Visit

Peace and Quiet at Land's End

October 26th, 2008

We’re not going to lie to you. Visiting Provincetown in the off-season is not quite the same thing as visiting in the summer.

With all the magnets that usually pull in the masses turned down for a winter break, the Outer Cape becomes all the better for a peaceful sneak-away from the rest of the world.

There are not as many shows, the beaches are no longer bathing suit friendly, and the streets are not filled with shirtless men (or women).

But, with all the magnets that usually pull in the masses turned down for a winter break, the Outer Cape becomes all the better for a peaceful sneak-away from the rest of the world.

In fact, many think of the fall as the best time to visit. While everybody has their own reasons, there are a few highlights to keep in mind as you think about a fall visit.

The guesthouses, usually full during the summer months, have more openings in the fall, and often offer lower rates for off-season visitors.

The leaves, usually green in the summer, have turned into a brilliant parade of red, yellow and orange.

The stores, which offer a wild variety any time of year, tend to offer sales on their selections.

The breeze coming off of Provincetown Harbor has just the right amount of chill – not so much that you need to bring the winter wear, but just enough to make you feel your own edges meet the rest of the world.

The townies come out of hiding, and are more likely to spend some time talking to a visitor about the town’s lore.

The nights are quiet, and if you step outside for a moonlit walk, you can truly feel like you’re alone at the end of the world.
