Holiday Lights and Delectable Dining

The wonder of the holiday season begins with the 102nd Annual Lighting of the Pilgrim Monument

November 12th, 2012

Holiday Lights and Delectable Dining

Of course, you can’t forget Thanksgiving dinner! There are several fine establishments offering up temptations to please any palate.

The charms of our small town are many, and the greatest of these are the traditions we build. Our Thanksgiving brings wonder and reflection, good food and laughter with family and friends. This year, why not come and share a tradition with us, or create your own in our lovely piece of Land’s End?

The wonder of the holiday season begins Wednesday the 21st, with the 102nd Annual Lighting of the Pilgrim Monument from 5-7 p.m. This year, the Lighting will honor the Provincetown Volunteer Fire Department, Rescue Squad and Lower Cape Ambulance Association. According to Monument Executive Director, “We are thrilled to salute with deepest thanks and pride the extraordinary citizens who stand ready to rush into danger on our behalf.” Free cider and cookies will be provided by the Provincetown Business Guild and you can participate in the tradition by making a donation in memory of a loved one to help defray the costs of keeping the Monument illuminated until January 6, 2013.

Of course, you can’t forget Thanksgiving dinner! There are several fine establishments offering up temptations to please any palate. You can experience the old-world elegance of the Red Inn, which offers a holiday meal with appetizer, soup, salad, a choice of turkey, lamb, duck, cod or steak for the main entrée, and homemade dessert. Their extensive wine menu assures the perfect complement to your dishes, and full cocktail service is also available.

At the Bistro at the Crowne Pointe Inn , you’ll savor the view of the illuminated Pilgrim Monument with an exquisite dinner consisting of a soup, fruit and cheese course, a choice of turkey, scallops, sirloin or vegetarian entrée and either pumpkin pie or chocolate crème brulee to end your meal! They also offer an award-winning selection of 125 different wines to accompany entree, including three varieties of non-alcoholic wine for those who prefer that option.

Should you choose The Mews, your menu includes a roasted butternut squash soup, watercress and arugula salad, choice of turkey and ham dinner, King salmon or vegetable and polenta lasagna, and dessert for $42 per person. This lovely gem is highly rated by Zagat for excellence, chosen by Cape Cod Life as “Best Fine Dining” for 2012, and received this year’s Certificate of Excellence by Trip Advisor. Widely known for its excellent and highly knowledgeable service staff, this is an experience not to be missed.

If you prefer casual elegance and being made to feel like family, then Fanizzi’s Thanksgiving buffet is the perfect choice for you. This picturesque, sea-weathered little East End icon offers dramatic ocean side views, an incredibly friendly and attentive staff, and generous selections. Their holiday buffet will include turkey with all the fixings, baked ham, baked scallops, pasta, salad, fresh rolls, dessert buffet and beverage for $24.99 per person. They also have a full bar. Dinner buffet hours are 12 – 6 pm.

When I dropped into Napi’s Restaurant, I was told by owner Napi Van Dereck, “We’ll do what we’ve done for 37 years; we will open at 2 pm on Thanksgiving, and we will offer a turkey dinner as well as our regular menu.” Napi’s is an intimate spot, beautifully decorated with art by Provincetown artists, stained glass, and antique carousel horses. Some pieces of art date back to the beginning of the last century, and the eclectic selection is a perfect background to the unusual, internationally diverse menu, which includes items such as Shrimp Santa Fe, Brazilian steak, asparagus ravioli and cashew vegetable stir fry.

Now that you have your options, go my friends – eat, drink and be merry!
