Provincetown's New Restaurants

Fast, Fun, Casual and Satisfying

June 3rd, 2013

Whether you're here for a day, a week or anything in between, you're going to need to eat! This year we have several new and unique choices to tickle your taste buds.

You'll find something to satisfy the youngest to the oldest taste buds!

Have you ever tried Brazilian food? I did recently, stopping by the new Brazilian restaurant called Uma Loucura in the Aquarium Marketplace, and I was delighted!

From their snacks such as Coxinha (co-sheen-ya) and Risolo, tasty little croquettes filled with lightly seasoned chicken or beef, to their cheese bread and yucca fries, to their full meals such as the fabulous Feijoada (Fey-Jwah-Duh), which is a delicious blend of chicken and turkey sausage, bacon and black beans, served with rice, kale, a mix-in seasoning called farofa, and a lively tomato, onion and pepper vinaigrette, you'll enjoy this or any other reasonably-priced menu choices offered. All meals are prepared by chef and co-owner Flavio Noguiera, who learned these dishes from his grandmother and mother in Brazil. It's definitely worth the trip! Check out their daily specials, and don't forget to try one of their luscious Brazilian chocolate truffles for dessert!

Summer days bring our thoughts to barbeque!! On June 5th Provincetown will have its own barbeque joint! That's opening day for BBQ-BOYS at 43 Race Point Road, just the other side of Route 6! Owners Tim and Christian, who adopted the slogan "Meat Tastes Good", have planned a menu with great smoked meats like baby back ribs, brisket, free-range chicken and freshly made sausage, as well as all our favorite sides, from mac-and-cheese, collard greens and black-eyed peas, to marinated green bean salad and dirty potato cakes. If a whole meal is too much for you, they're also offering smoked meat sandwiches which come with side salad and a slice of watermelon! Daily specials, combo meals and desserts including old fashioned strawberry shortcake (made with biscuits) and a variety of pies will also tempt you. You can choose to eat in the restaurant, take it to go, or even have it delivered to your door! Invite your friends, and they'll put together barbeque packs for 4 8, 10 or more people.

No visit to a coastal town is complete without a taste of seafood, and The Canteen, a unique take on the classic New England summer shack, is the newest hot spot offering lunch and dinner, as well as late-night noshes till 2 am. Operated by Provincetown residents Rob Anderson, Loic Rossignon and Thomas Pucci, they are providing perfected versions of Cape Cod favorites like lobster rolls, fish and chips, chowders, and a raw bar. It has a casual, beachy and fun atmosphere, with a blackboard menu, humorous slogans painted on the picnic-bench style tables, and a small amount of outdoor seating if you want to watch the crowds go by. You'll find something to satisfy the youngest to the oldest taste buds, and they also offer vegetarian dishes and yummy desserts like chocolate pie, lemon rosemary ice, banana beignets, and a vegan raw banana ice cream!

Are you a fan of "street food"? Then you'll want to try out Frank N Fries also located in the Aquarium Marketplace, and operated by owner Paige Mansfield of Blondie's Burgers and manager Patty McGraw. The menu includes all-beef hot dogs, vegan dogs, corn dogs, chili dogs, the sausage-pepper-and-onion hero and chicken wings for lunch/dinner, and snack foods like their fabulous deep-friend pickles (out of this world good!), zucchini and mozzarella sticks and soft pretzels flavored with honey mustard, chocolate, caramel, and this Italian gal's favorite, parmesan garlic! They also carry a variety of side dishes and fries. Do you crave bacon? They carry bacon-ranch fries! You'll surely please the young and the young at heart.
