Spring is here and it’s time to shake off the weight of winter. Yes, finally, it is really time to store away the heavy layers, open windows long sealed shut, pull out the sandals, and sweep out the dust of past seasons.
 | Shopping in Provincetown is actually a peaceful experience, with the town's harbor beach nearby and beautiful views in all directions . . . |
|
In Provincetown, however, the rite of seasonal purging goes one step further, spilling out onto the town’s streets for the annual Monumental Yard Sale, a town-wide affair that attracts bargain seekers from all over.
The event is a hit with treasure hunters because it’s not just ordinary individuals hosting the yard sales. The town’s many and varied retail stores also get in on the scene, offering up old stock at great prices as they prepare to make room for new summer fare.
In fact, with storeowners shifting stock, sales are to be had the whole month of May.
The Monumental Yard Sale, however, still stands out among all other spring weekends when it comes to shopping bargains.
Organized by the Provincetown Business Guild, the event synchronizes sale offerings, ensuring visitors will find great prices all along Commercial Street.
Along with the prices, there’s also the experience.
While the town’s retail stores all line up to offer visitors great deals, the uniformity ends there, which means there really is something for everyone. From designer clothes to beachwear, and luxury home décor to tchotchkes, Commercial Street presents an astonishing diversity of stores and items not found in most shopping destinations.
Add to this the fact that there’s nothing quite like a stroll down Provincetown’s Commercial Street on a new spring day, with the harbor at ready for great views or a moment of respite on the beach.
This year the town-wide yard sale will occur on May 17 and 18.
