Hot Buys Under $30-Part II

Notes from Land's End: May 24

May 23rd, 2010

The pursuit of hot buys on Commercial Street continues this week with Jimmylee aka MamaLee. Life was gorgeous as we met up in for lunch, shopping and an afternoon cocktail party.

Dressed to the nines, well fed and ready for a party, summertime is easy with hot buys for under $30.

Like Mainers, Wellfleetians have their own sensibility; a little bit country, a little bit heady, a little bit rock and roll. Jimmylee’s friends from Smith, up to go birding at the sanctuary, had a repast fit for a queen. Well stocked for gluten free dairy free souls, Wellfleet Marketplace’s Natasha put together a vegan basket for under $30.00 for four. She packed Sabra hummus ($3.99, Mary’s gone Crackers (4.50), Redbridge Gluten Free Beer ($9.79), cherries ($7.99) and organic chocolate so good I almost cried ($4.99). “Stupendous!” said Jimmylee.

Fortified, we shopped till we dropped at Yates and Kennedy, a maritime treasure trove of finds. Mitchell, the dashing former co-owner of MAP, said he imagined what a whaling captain would bring home after a long trip at sea and filled his shop. Jimmylee selected a fabulous outfit for his afternoon cocktail party. Sporting a Y&K 2010 Edition Flower Skull Tee ($28), Thomas Paul Bird Scarf ($26), Straw Fedora ($26.) and Yates and Kennedy Provincetown tote ($11), we flew off to the packie.

Business was brisk with landscapers, workers and bon vivants at Yardarm Liquors. A second generation purveyor, John Gaineys has great wines from all over the world.
Christie was happy to help and selected chilled Casal Gracia Vinho Verde from Portugal ($6.99), Cellar8 Chardonnay from California ($10.99) and Vourray Domaine de Vaufuget ($11.99) from France.

Dressed to the nines, well fed and ready for a party, summertime is easy with hot buys for under $30.00
