Dane Vannatter.
Winter Jazz Series Begins
With Vocalist Dane Vannatter
By Kahrin Deines
December 2nd, 2007
When many people think about art and Provincetown, they think of the visual and literary arts. But in this small arts colony, the musical arts have arguably been just as vibrant over the years.
 | Hosted by jazz drummer Bart Weisman, the Winter Jazz Series will begin with a free afternoon jam on Dec. 15. |
|
Today, on any given weekend in the height of the season it is possible to find everything from a rock show to a classical concert, a cabaret act, or a jazz performance. And, though the winter is a quieter time, the area’s musicians and other regular Cape performers don’t let that fact hush their songs and sounds.
The Winter Jazz Series at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum is just one example of this year-round musical energy.
Hosted by jazz drummer Bart Weisman, the Winter Jazz Series will begin with a free afternoon jam on Dec. 15.
The concert will feature vocalist Dane Vannatter, who brings elements of cabaret and jazz together in his vocal style. Vannatter was awarded the 2006 Bistro Award for Outstanding Vocalist by BackStage critics in New York and he has performed at venues across the east coast. Vannatter has also released three albums of his singing.
Vannatter will be joined by Fred Boyle on piano, Chris Rathbun on bass and Weisman on the drums.
In addition to hosting the jazz series, Weisman is also the founder of the popular Provincetown Jazz Festival.
The concert will take place on Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum, which is located at 460 Commercial Street. The concert is free. To find out more about the Winter Jazz Series, call PAAM at 508.487.1750.
