The Outer Cape Chorale will be the audience at the Sing-Along.
Find Your Holiday Voice
At the Sixth Annual Messiah Sing-Along
By Kahrin Deines
December 14th, 2007
You know who you are. When you’re in your car alone, or in the shower when no one else is home . . . you start to sing, you find your voice and for a brief interlude you are one of the world’s singers. And you are not alone – in solitary settings all over would-be singers take pleasure in the sound of their own voice, finding their release in settings that offer freedom from the possible censure of other listeners.
 | The “Sixth Annual Messiah Sing-Along” will take place on December 29 at 7 p.m. at the U.U. Meeting House. |

The fact of the matter is that whether you can carry a tune or not, there is something about opening up those vocal chords that is just plain fun. Perhaps it’s hardwired into our makeup, a holdover from earlier days when song was a common way to express joy together in social groups, or maybe it’s just a form of rock star envy.
Nevertheless, singing is irresistible for many, especially when it comes to Christmas songs, for which everyone knows the words, if not the tune.
Thankfully, sometimes the singers take pity upon the world’s non-singers, as some of them will during an upcoming holiday concert in Provincetown. In keeping with the holiday spirit of giving, the Outer Cape Chorale, which is a 100-member community chorus that knows just how much fun it is to sing, is hosting its “Sixth Annual Messiah Sing-Along” on December 29 at 7 p.m. at the U.U. Meeting House.
During the annual sing-along, the audience is given the opportunity to become the chorus, and the chorus the audience. Musical scores are made available at the event to give everyone a solid vocal launching point and from there, the would-be vocalists are welcome to wander.
Jon Arterton, the conductor of the chorale, will also be at large during the event to shepherd the mix of singers into a semblance of harmony, while the pianist John Thomas will lead the night’s vocal movements along the resident Steinway’s black and white stairs.
In 2002 conductor Jon Arterton founded the Outer Cape Chorale, which is a non-auditioning, community vocal group. Since its formation, the chorus has grown from a small original group of under twenty members to a powerful 110-voice chorus.
Find your voice for the New Year with the support of a vibrant singing group! The “Messiah Sing-Along” will take place on December 29 at 7 p.m. at the U.U. Meetinghouse. The sing-along is a free holiday event.
