Cabaret Favorite Comes Back

For One Night Only at The Crown

February 14th, 2008

It may have happened to you too. Some summer evening you were strolling down Commercial Street, arm in arm perhaps with a friend or lover, wondering where you should head next and then you heard it – the sound of Mary Callanan’s belting voice joined by an audience chorus, and the lively play of the ivory keys in the hands of Brian Patton.

Brian has performed in numerous Boston clubs, including The Encore Lounge and Sculler’s Jazz Club. He is a singer, pianist and musical director.

Mary and Brian, as they are affectionately known, have become a Provincetown cabaret tradition in the summers. Performing favorites from the American songbook, the duo usually draws a rambunctious audience of visitors and locals, who often find themselves dancing or singing along with the pair.

Such a crowd can be expected again next weekend, when Patton – or Brian – returns to Provincetown to perform at The Crown’s Central House on Feb. 16 at 9:30 p.m.

Brian has performed in numerous Boston clubs, including The Encore Lounge and Sculler’s Jazz Club. He is a singer, pianist and musical director. In addition to performing with Mary, and many other vocalists, Brian was a member of the popular cabaret group “At the Movies” and one of the founders of the 16-voice a cappella group “The Woodland Scholars.”

Brian’s work is featured on an “At the Movies” album, as well as on a 2003 CD with Mary Callanan titled “How I Spent My Summer Vacation.” Perhaps you can guess where that was?

He is also a member of the Boston Association of Cabaret Artists. In addition to his upcoming Provincetown performance, Brian will be on the stage with singer Patricia Fitzpatrick, also a known Boston and Provincetown performer, at The Orleans Inn on April 5.

To find our more about Brian Patton’s performance at The Crown and Anchor’s Central House, call 508.487.1430 or visit www.onlyatthecrown.com. The Crown and Anchor is located at 247 Commercial Street.
