Hot Brew at Coffeehouse

Six More Chances to Watch Performances or Perform

March 28th, 2008

Six more weeks, and six more chances to hear great music at the “Coffeehouse at the Mews” open mike series.

The popular open mike series will end in early May. Between now and then, talented local and visiting musicians are set to bring their sounds to the stage.

The popular open mike series will end in early May, but between now and then, a number of talented local and visiting musicians are set to bring their sounds to the stage.

Rick Fetters, a folk singer-songwriter from Fall River, will be in town to start off the Coffeehouse in April. Fetters, a veteran folk artist, is also the host of a weekly open mic series at the Narrows Center for the Arts in Fall River.

Next up, Rob Scott will perform on April 14. Audience members may have heard Scott, a jazz pianist, perform before, either with his own trio or with The Grab Brothers. He also performed at the 2006 Provincetown Jazz Festival.

The lineup continues with Greg Johnson on April 21 and Michael Troy on April 28. Johnson is a recording artist and singer-songwriter from New Zealand, who has a very large following in his home country. Troy, meanwhile, did not begin performing seriously until late in life and he has developed a strong fan base in the folk community in record short time. He has released two well-received albums, with songs that bring to life his earlier experiences as a mill-worker, fisherman and laborer.

The Coffeehouse series will then come to a close in May with two more performances. Alicia Mickenberg, a viola player, will perform on May 5. And Peter Donnelly, the host of the Coffeehouse, will take the stage for this season’s final open mic on May 12.

Others may perform as well. Writers, playwrights, poets, comedians and musicians are all welcome, and can sign up to perform on the evening of the open mics.

All of the performances will take place at The Mews Restaurant at 8 p.m. A $3 donation is suggested for entry, with all proceeds going to Provincetown’s community radio station WOMR.
