''Les After School'' will perform at the festival.
Calypso, Blues, Soul and More
At the 2nd Annual Provincetown Music Festival
By Kahrin Deines
September 4th, 2008
Provincetown’s high school is set to rock, and swing, and groove, and bop, all in one night, when the second annual Provincetown Music Festival takes place on September 13.
 | The Provincetown Music Festival will take place on September 13 from 5 to 9 p.m. |
|
Organized by Bart Weisman, the founder of the popular Provincetown Jazz festival, the festival presents a rare opportunity to enjoy a wild mix of musical genres in one setting. Everything from reggae to folk, country, pop, jazz, blues, soul, klezmer, calypso and rock will be represented in the evening’s exceptionally diverse musical lineup.
Weisman, a local jazz drummer, is contributing the sounds of klezmer – a type of Jewish jazz – along with clarinetist Ted Casher and vocalist Carol Wyeth. And Peter Donnelly, also a local musician, will perform his blend of folk, country and pop.
 | ''Magic of Steel'' will perform at the festival. |
|
Sounds from the Caribbean will be heard as well, with the Cape Cod band “Magic of Steel” set to perform reggae, calypso and soca.
Meanwhile, for the jazz and blues lovers, musician and composer Pat Ryan will be on hand. Ryan released a CD of original contemporary jazz tunes – “Blu Mulcru” – in 2006, and his music is also featured on “Just Jazz,” a CD compilation produced by the Cape Cod Jazz Society.
There will also be Motown and R&B, as the six-piece band “Pocketfull of Soul” takes its turn to perform some of the best dance classics from the ‘60s and ‘70s.
And, in addition to the local Cape artists, musical groups from other areas are scheduled to perform.
The Paris-based group “Les After School” is set to appear, bringing with them a mix of progressive rock and reggae to the festival stage.
And from Boston, the musical group “Tripping Lily” will be in town. The group cuts a truly unique auditory path, fusing a wide field of pop, folk and rock with just as many instruments – ukulele, violin, mandolin, guitar and bass.
The Provincetown Music Festival will take place on September 13 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Provincetown High School. Tickets for the event cost $25, and a portion of the proceeds will be used to support Helping Our Women and the Carrie A. Seaman Animal Shelter.
