Coffeehouse Heats Up for 2008

Marc Douglas Berardo Performs Nov. 24

October 31st, 2008

Good coffee, good music, good people – what more could you want? And you can have it at the “Coffeehouse at the Mews,” a weekly ‘open mic’ series that started for 2008 on November 3.

The Coffeehouse has been going on for almost two decades, with weekly ‘open mics’ from November to May.

The Coffeehouse has been going on for almost two decades, with weekly ‘open mics’ from November to May.

Writers, playwrights, poets, comedians, musicians and others are all welcome to perform at the Coffeehouse, which was started by the local singer-songwriter Peter Donnelly and Mews Restaurant owner Ron Robin in the ‘80s. Donnelly continues to serve as the ‘open mic’ host.

In addition to serving as a workshop and community outlet for local artists, the Coffeehouse also hosts a featured performer from outside the area most weeks.

For the first ‘open mic’ of the 2008 season, the Northamption folk artist Dave Dersham was in town to perform on November 3.

Next up is Marcia Mello, a musician who anyone who has visited Provincetown in the summers would recognize as the balladeer with the braids who is often found busking along Commercial Street. Mello performs November 10.

Brenda Evans, a Cape singer-songwriter who has performed at the Coffeehouse in the past, will then take the stage on November 17.

And, to bring the first month to a close, Marc Douglas Berardo will be in town to perform on November 24. He has released four albums with songs telling the tales of everyone from circus retirees to old fishermen, and hails from Westerly, Rhode Island.

Wired Puppy coffee is served as the hot brew to go along with the Coffeehouse performances.

The Coffeehouse is a benefit for Provincetown’s Outermost Community Radio Station WOMR (a $3 donation is suggested). Performances start on Mondays at 8 p.m., with the featured performer taking the stage at 9 p.m. For more information about the Coffeehouse, visit www.peterdonnelly.com or call 508.487.1500.
