Dining for a Cause
At the First Landing Party and HOW Evening
November 15th, 2009
November might as well be proclaimed a month for dining on the lower Cape. Between the Provincetown Restaurant Week that just ended and Thanksgiving at the end of the month, there are also two very special dinners to attend over this next weekend.
 | Also next weekend the 7th Annual Evening for HOW takes place at the Lobster Pot on Nov. 20. |

On November 21, diners will have a special opportunity to support a good cause while also learning a bit of history.
The event, which is fittingly called the First Landing Party, takes place at The Orleans Inn to help raise money for the 100th anniversary of the Pilgrim Monument.
A gala celebration is planned for the monument’s centennial in 2010, one to rival the pomp that attended its completion so many years ago.
The monument honors the Mayflower’s landing on Nov. 21, 1620 in Provincetown Harbor, where the Pilgrims signed the historic Mayflower Compact.
For the party on Nov. 21, guest speaker Jamie Trowbridge, the president of Yankee Publishing Incorporated, will regale attendees with tales of the Pilgrim’s landing.
Pilgrims William Bradford, Mary Allerton, John Alden and others are also expected to make special guest appearances, creating for the diners a personal impression of that historic day.
Tickets to the dinner can be bought online and cost $102, after the 102 passengers that were aboard the Mayflower when it sailed into the Provincetown Harbor. Those who attend the meal will become members of the Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum’s 102 Club.
Also next weekend the 7th Annual Evening for HOW takes place at The Lobster Pot on November 20. The dinner raises money for Helping Our Women, an organization dedicated to helping women suffering from chronic or life-threatening health problems.
The event, featuring music by the Bart Weisman Jazz Group, is unfortunately already sold out. But it’s never too late to send a check to HOW.
