Valentine's in Provincetown

Parties, guesthouse deals and more

February 8th, 2010

When Cupid raises his bow and arrow, Provincetown is always a target. Long recognized as a romantic retreat by long-standing couples, new lovers and singles on the hunt alike, it’s always astir on Valentine’s Day.

The town’s many bars, venues and art centers will also be busy with events for the Valentine’s Day weekend, as always offering a truly diverse enough selection.

This year visitors planning a trip can expect to find great lodging deals at many of the town’s beautiful guesthouses, including Land’s End Inn and the Brass Key Guesthouse, among others. To search for the perfect getaway for you and your special someone, check out Provincetown.com’s Accommodations Finder.

The town’s many bars, venues and art centers will also be busy with events for the Valentine’s Day weekend, as always offering a truly diverse enough selection.

The A-House is offering a special Valentine’s Ball on Feb. 13, with DJ David LaSalle and the inimitable impersonator and performance artist Thirsty Burlington entertaining as host.

At The Crown and Anchor, singer-songwriter and pianist Todd Alsup is performing both Feb. 13 and 14 in the cabaret. Meanwhile, DJ Maryalice will be spinning sultry webs of sound for The Red Party in the nearby Paramount Nightclub. For those on the lookout for leather and love, The Vault will also be open for the weekend.

Love-themed parties are also in the lineup at the Shipwreck Lounge, while the Waterford is presenting a special performance by singer-songwriter Peter Donnelly and Phoebe Otis on Feb. 13 as part of its cabaret with composer and pianist John W. Thomas.

Jazz will feed the weekend’s flames as well, with an afternoon concert featuring Greg Abate and Bart Weisman scheduled at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum.

Meanwhile, the Truro Center for the Arts in Castle Hill is hosting a silent auction Love Show in its gallery, with all of the proceeds from the art sales going to Haiti. The opening reception for the show is Feb. 13. A chocolate fountain and DJ Matty Dread from the Funky Soul Train will be in the house.

And … that’s still not all. Counter Productions’ second show for 2010 – a production of Tom Eyen’s Women Behind Bars – also opens Valentine’s weekend. The play, which is being directed by Patrick Falco, runs at the Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater at 7:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday until Feb. 28.
