A Deeper Experience
Off-Season Entertainment
February 20th, 2010
We’re not going to lie. It is much quieter in Provincetown in the winter – sharply different than the non-stop street-wide celebration it is known for in the summer and fall.
 | For those planning a winter getaway to the breathtaking Outer Cape, here are some events in the next few weeks that could deepen your experience of Provincetown. |
|
But unlike the party atmosphere, the town’s beauty never takes a vacation, making it an ideal spot for a rejuvenating winter escape.
Meanwhile, the events that do take place offer an intimate entry into the culture of Outer Cape life. When you go to a play or a reading in the off-months, you will meet the artists that sustain the town’s dynamic creative scene. When you go to a bar or a restaurant, you may find yourself in a conversation with people who have made creative life choices to live here year round.
For those planning a winter getaway to the breathtaking Outer Cape, here are some events in the next few weeks that could deepen your experience of Provincetown:
Coffeehouse at the Mews, an open mic for writers, playwrights, poets, singers, comedians, songwriters and anyone who has something to share, takes place most Monday nights. The event is hosted by singer-songwriter Peter Donnelly and features a performance by a guest artist. The event starts at 8 p.m. at The Mews Restaurant, so there’s plenty of time to enjoy a delicious meal before the entertainment begins.
On Wednesdays, a Winter Reading Series takes place at the Provincetown Theater, where playwrights often unveil finished works or works in progress. Upcoming readings include “Easy to Love” by Susan Lumenello on March 3 and “Wetu in the City” by MWalim on March 10.
A dance party to benefit Helping Our Women, a vital Outer Cape organization that helps women suffering from chronic or fatal illness, is taking place on Feb. 27. The HOW Benefit Dance is always a great off-season party, and this year features DJ Beth O. The event starts at 7:30 p.m. at the V.F.W. on Jerome Smith Road.
WOMR 92.1 FM, Provincetown’s Outermost Community Radio station, offers a Winter Benefit Film Series on Thursdays. On Feb. 25, WOMR is featuring a night of Max Fleischer animation, with a lecture by cartoonist Ned Sonntag.
