Selma Gokcen gives Cello Recital

Selma Gokcen will perform a solo cello concert on Saturday, September 4 at 7:30 pm at the Wellfleet Public Library. Admission is by free will donation.

Selma Gokcen is a cellist, performing musician and teacher of the cello, and a qualified practitioner of the Alexander Technique. Her lifelong passion is working with musicians of all ages, helping them to understand and overcome habits and to fulfil their potential.
An accomplished performer, Ms Gokcen has given recitals throughout the United States and Europe. She has toured in South America for the U.S. State Department and her appearances have taken her to the People’s Republic of China, where she was invited to give recitals and masterclasses in Shanghai, the Sichuan Province, and Beijing.
Ms. Gokcen was awarded her Prix de Virtuosité (First Prize) from the Geneva Conservatoire of Music, where she was a pupil of Guy Fallot and Pierre Fournier. She holds three degrees from the Juilliard School www.juilliard.edu, including a Doctorate of Musical Arts.
She is the co-founder and Co-Chair of the London Cello Society www.londoncellos.org, an educational charity dedicated to the cause of the cello in the United Kingdom. The Society presents an annual series of public concerts, lectures, and seminars in Great Britain. Their most recent production is a DVD of masterclasses with the distinguished cellist Bernard Greenhouse.
