Only at The Crown

Notes from Land's End: July 11

July 11th, 2012

In a town known for diversity and a good time, The Crown and Anchor is one of the most visited locales in Provincetown, reports Travelocity’s website. If you want hot dancing, a taste of leather, cozy accommodations, cocktails by the pool and fine dining - all in one complex – this is the place.

If you want hot dancing, a taste of leather, cozy accommodations, cocktails by the pool and fine dining - all in one complex – this is the place.

Superstar Kate Clinton and Tony nominated (Kiki and Herb) Justin Vivian Bond perform alongside our very own Miss Richfield 1981 and Tawny Heatherton (the new girl in town). Tongue-in-Cheek themed acts like BEARILYN MONROE (Bear Week) come to the Paramount and Cabaret Rooms every Summer while the Fall brings AFTERGLOW, Provincetown’s live performance festival in September.

Commercial Street on a Saturday Night has its share of show tunes but Bobby Wetherbee at the piano will stop even the most jaded Queen in her tracks. There are people from all over the country who make an annual pilgrimage just to sing along at The Crown and Anchor’s Central House.

The renowned author of the San Francisco based “Tales of the City” recently had his first-ever public appearance in the Crown’s Paramount Room at “Teatime with Armisted Maupin.” He regaled the standing room only audience with incredibly funny stories, read from his newest work-in-progress “The Days of Anna Madrigal” and made each and every person glad to be indoors, even on a perfect Cape Cod afternoon.

After the show, I went to dinner at the Central House with my partner Jacques, a third generation fisherman who certainly knows how to catch and cook a fish. I ordered the halibut special and my date decided on the swordfish. We enjoyed an appetizer of delectable regional artisan cheeses accompanied by a lovely house Chardonnay and a cold beer.

The presentation and quality of the food created by Manhattan’s Devon Gilroy and Christian McClean was perfectly cooked and served by a caring and lovely waitress, Katherine Shea from Queens.

Up for a good time? Reserve a room, have dinner, take in a show and dance your tuckus off at the Crown and Anchor. Please contact www.onlyatthecrown.com with or call 508-487-1430 for more information, reservations of tickets.
