Late April Fun

April 15th, 2014

The advancing days of April bring bursts of warm days, a sweeter scent to the air, and urges to play in and savor the sunshine! Why not take a break from all the yard work for a day (or long weekend) with us as we embrace spring!

No matter the weather, you can find events at 13 different indoor and outdoor locations around town.

Coming into town for some daytime adventure? The whales are back in the bay, and whale watching has begun! This early in the season, the magnificent, endangered right whales are still in the area, as well as minke whales, white sided dolphins, harbor seals and more!Since it is still early spring, schedule information for all trips are subject to weather conditions so please call for updated trip times. Schedule times may vary day to day depending on many factors; trips are added and removed depending on demand, weather and other factors! For information for a particular date and time you should visit the Dolphin Fleet whale watches or Provincetown Whale Watches websites, and/or call their offices to confirm. It's a fresh-air adventure that will stay in your memory for a lifetime!

Don't you deserve a fun and relaxing three-day weekend? Of course you do! Patriot's Day weekend (April 18-21) will serve the bill quite well! Friday April 18th marks the beginning of the 4th Annual "Appearances" international eco-arts festival, which brings awareness of the majesty and fragility of our environment, as well as showing the strengths of the naturally occurring energies that can be harnessed - such as wind, sun and water - by creating kinetic artworks, recyclable artworks and works that will be transformed by the elements during the duration of the event, as well as eco-centric works from other artistic disciplines such as painting, photography, poetry, readings, short films and performance art exhibited or performed at sites throughout Provincetown.

No matter the weather, you can find events at 13 different indoor and outdoor locations around town, including the Harbor Hotel, the 141 Bradford Natural Market, and the 17-acre Dunes Edge campground! From the Opening Party at the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies Lab, to readings and workshops, a seed exchange, performances, whale walks, and a Closing Ceremony Drumming Circle, there is plenty to entice you! See the Appearances 2014 web site for a map and schedule of events.

Patriot's Day weekend is also Easter Weekend this year, so why not enjoy some holiday traditions here? The UU Meetinghouse services will be followed by an Easter-egg hunt, then bring the kids down to the Beech Forest to “hunt” for bunnies and red squirrels and to hand-feed the multitude of songbirds near the Pond, then head out to a restaurant for Easter brunch at Fanizzi's, where you get a stunning oceanfront view and relaxed and friendly service with your meal (choose from regular menu or their Breakfast Buffet)! More shops on Commercial Street are opening every weekend, so you can top off your visit with some browsing and shopping!

The following weekend, dance on down the Cape for Gays for Patsy (GFP)'s 22nd Annual Spring Stomp, a weekend of country music, line dancing/two step lessons and workshops! This Boston-based LGBT organization of C&W dance enthusiasts is dedicated to sharing the joys of dancing in a supportive LGBT, non-alcoholic environment while raising funds for groups serving those in need. With dances on Friday and Saturday nights (April 25 & 26) and Saturday workshops at Sage Inn, there’s a fun weekend planned where you can dance off your winter weight!
