Star Power in Provincetown!

Early August Entertainment

July 31st, 2014

Who says you have to hang around the hot big cities just to see a fabulous show? Provincetown has a lot of star power coming to entertain you in August!

In 2008, Carol was inducted into the Smithsonian Institute in D.C. with eight other legendary ladies of stage and screen.

The excitement starts off on August 4th when Tony Award winner Alan Cumming brings his amazing cabaret show to the Crown and Anchor for One Night Only! Joined on stage by musical director-composer Lance Horne and Eleanor Norton on cello, Cumming belts material from Annie Lennox to Kander & Ebb with his signature charm.Alan Cumming shows Provincetown that life is indeed a cabaret!

On August 7th, you can spend an evening with two additional Broadway legends! Tony Award winners Carol Channing and Tommy Tune come together and make their Provincetown debut for an evening of conversation and stories at Provincetown's Town Hall auditorium. The performance will chronicle Ms. Channing’s phenomenal career, moderated by nine-time Tony-winning song and dance man Tommy Tune! In 2008, Carol was inducted into the Smithsonian Institute in D.C. with eight other legendary ladies of stage and screen, and she has continued to perform and release CDs, including a collection of Gospel music in 2010 and another of patriotic American songs in 2012! Tickets are available through the Crown and Anchor website as part of their 2014 “Broadway Series” of shows for August!

On August 10th and 11th, comedienne Sandra Bernhard brings her one-of-a-kind live show, "Sandyland" to the Crown, which sharply blends theater, rock-n-roll and stand-up with a little burlesque & cabaret, as part of her current national tour. As part of the Crown's new Turn Up the Volume Series, a portion of proceeds benefit the Trevor Project, an important national organization that for the past 15 years has provided life saving crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to youth, especially those who are LGBT.

Over at the Art House, their annual “Broadway at the Art House” lineup includes Alice Ripley, who won a Tony Award for her leading role in the Pulitzer Prize winning musical “Next to Normal,” and was a Tony-nominee for the musical “Sideshow” on Broadway. This summer, she performs with Jessica Means joining her at piano on August 2nd and 3rd at 7 pm.

Following on her heels is Marilyn Maye. Dubbed “The greatest white female singer in the world” by Ella Fitzgerald, this star vocalist took Provincetown audiences by storm in her highly anticipated debut at The Art House three summers ago, and returns to The Art House by popular demand for a 4th year! She is the winner of the coveted Jazz Heritage Award, the 2008 and 2009 Nightlife Critics Award, the BackStage Bistro “Lifetime Achievement Award,” and the MAC “Celebrity of the Year” award for the fourth year in a row in 2012. She's performing from August 5th to 9th at 7 pm!

On August 10th at 6:30 and 9:00, come see “the little lady with the big voice”, Broadway and film/TV star Kristin Chenoweth (Tony & Emmy Award winner for “Wicked” and TV’s “Glee” & “Pushing Daisies”)! Kristin also sold out Carnegie Hall for the third time on May 3rd in her show “The Evolution of a Soprano”, and in July she traveled to London for a performance at the celebrated Royal Albert Hall! This dynamo will knock your socks off, so be sure to catch one of her two shows!

From August 13th-18thth at 7 pm, Megan Hilty, breakout star of NBC’s “Smash” and star on Broadway in “Wicked” and “9 to 5: The Musical” returns for several performances by popular demand, after her sold-out debut at the Art House last summer!
The “stars” are aligning, and Provincetown in August is the place to be!

Chris Daniels is a writer/photographer who shares her life with a bossy cat and “Damon, the Dog With the Toy”
