Early Fall Festivals

September 5th, 2014

If you think a classic car is a thing of beauty, then you'll want to cruise into town to check out the Yankee Lambda Car Show and Parade on Saturday, September 6th! You can tour MacMillan Pier and admire/photograph the many favorite vintage vehicles assembled, talk to owners, and indulge in some nostalgia and automotive lust from 10 am to 2 pm, and then watch these babies in motion as they “parade” through the main streets of town, beginning around 2 pm! Whether your favorite is a 60s sport car, a 1941 Cadillac or a Nash Rambler, you're sure to see something to awe the car lover in you! I'm always on the lookout for a '57 Thunderbird convertible, myself!

The extensive roster of talents brings an avante-garde air to theater, comedy and musical performances and offers something for everyone

Next up is the 4th Annual Afterglow Festival, from September 8-14, 2014. “Afterglow” is a gathering both renowned and under-the-radar innovative stage artists evolving the world of live performance today. It honors Provincetown as the birthplace of the Modern American Theater, championing its evolutionary spirit by presenting staged works from performing artists across a wide spectrum of forms. The festival also serves as an international destination for performing artists to express their creativity and vision while fortifying Provincetown’s unique historical standing as a center for vanguard stage craft. The extensive roster of talents brings an avante-garde air to theater, comedy and musical performances and offers something for everyone. Shows are based at the Crown and Anchor entertainment complex, and both individual tickets and festival passes can be purchased through the Afterglow Festival website.

On August 20th, at 7 pm, art lovers will be congregating for a festival of classic Provincetown art at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum for their Fall 2014 Centennial Consignment Auction, featuring rare and special work by deceased Provincetown and outer Cape Cod artists. This sale will be limited to 100 lots of superior quality artworks by deceased Provincetown artists such as Karl Knaths, Ross Moffett, Henry Hensche, Carol Westcott and many more! Prior to the auction, why not indulge in a day of shopping and lunch, or hang out in the sunshine to cheer on the riders of the 12th Harbor to the Bay charity bike ride for AIDS!

At the 9th Annual Tennessee Williams Festival, Sept. 25-28, 2014, the theme is “Circle of Friends”, an homage to Tennessee Williams' orbit among a constellation of friends – playwrights, painters, novelists and composers who, in the 1950s and early 60s were mainstream celebrities at the height of their artistic powers. These acclaimed men and women kept their private lives private, but shared with each other their secrets and lovers, good parties, a love of words and alcohol, and a belief in hard work as salvation. Come celebrate those friendships with eye-opening productions of plays by Williams alongside those of his contemporaries, including William Inge and Carson McCullers. The schedule this year includes: A Lovely Sunday for Creve Coeur, In the Summer House, Period of Adjustment, Vieux Carre, I Wish You'd Keep Still, The Lady Aoi, An Otherwise Hopeless Evening, The Member of the Wedding, Williams 101: Everything You Wanted to Know, Dinner with Friends, and John Lahr: Tennessee Williams & His Friends. Come and buy a tickets to see one show or more, or purchase a Carte Blanche pass which will admit you to 12 shows/events as well as private events such as cocktail parties and a wine tasting, a private brunch, and meet-and-greet events where you can mingle with Festival staff and performers!

Come enjoy the “afterglow” of summer, and makes some golden memories from autumn in Provincetown!
