4th of July

Sure to Sparkle!

June 20th, 2016

With the summer in full swing, escape the hot cities to enjoy fun and sun in the caressing sea breezes of Provincetown! What better time than the 4th of July week?

The Fireworks start at dusk over Provincetown Harbor, which can be viewed from any bayside beach (or from Dolphin Fleet or private charter fireworks cruises), or from poolside at the Crown or the Boatslip Resort!

The Crown & Anchor's “Independence” week celebration is one of the bigger celebrations in town, running from June 30th to July 7th! In addition to the nightly dance party's at the Crown itself, you can revel in the sunshine at pool parties on their oceanfront deck on both July 2nd and the 4th, revel in an afternoon dancing on the beach to the sounds of DJ Joe Gauthreaux on July 3rd, and a full slate of entertainers including Kate Clinton, Miss Richfield 1981, the “Illusions” drag revue and Dina Martina! At the Central House, you can sing along with Bobby Wetherbee leading up to the 4th, or kick back with popular singer/pianist Doug Repetti on July 4th and 5th! Performers Elle Emenope begins hosting the weekly “Elle's Variety Show” in the Cabaret Room on July 5th, and Marti Gould Cummings takes the stage on July 6th, while guest artist Mike Flanagan tickles the ivories in Central House and DJ Tom Yaz hosts “Stage and Screen Musical Night” in the Wave Bar! Head there for a stroll down the Memory Lane of musicals!

If you'd like an evening of live theater, mosey on over to the Provincetown Theater for ““The Little Dog Laughed” by Douglas Carter Beane, with performances on June 27, 28, 29, and July 5, 6, and 7 at 7:30 pm. The play follows the adventures of Mitchell Green, a movie star who could hit big if it weren’t for one teensy-weensy problem. His agent, Diane, can’t seem to keep him in the closet. Trying to help him navigate Hollywood’s choppy waters, the devilish Diane is doing all she can to keep Mitchell away from the cute rent boy who caught his eye and the rent boy’s girlfriend! Will there be a happy ending as the final credits roll? You can also take in Jean Genet's “The Maids” on July 1, 2 and 3, which has been garnering raves!

Energetic, stout-hearted visitors may want to strike a blow for humanity with ZombieTag. You see, the recent rise in ocean temperatures has caused bizarre mutations of aquatic microbes and there have been frightening reports of a zombie virus on Cape Cod. The U.S. Department of Zombie Virus Outbreak Containment (ZVOC) has been working in Provincetown to combat this horrific plague. They have successfully defined the infected area, called the DeadZone, where the zombie horde is circulating...and they need your help. It's a post-apocalypse scavenger hunt with two ways to play! You can join the ZVOC team and save humanity or you can join the zombies and “spread the virus” every Friday & Saturday night starting at 7:30. The two-hour “battle” enables you to hunt for clues (or victims!) for $20 per person!

On the actual Independence Day holiday, the town's annual Parade starts at 11am, at the Harbor Hotel in the East End, and proceeds up Commercial to Franklin Street. Parade Entrants will be judged in the following categories: Best in Parade, Most Patriotic, Best Musical Floats, Best Children's Floats, Best Adult Floats. Later the same day, the Fireworks start at dusk over Provincetown Harbor, which can be viewed from any bayside beach (or from Dolphin Fleet or private charter fireworks cruises), or from poolside at the Crown or the Boatslip Resort!

Finally, Sage Inn's “Great American Songbook Series” presents jazz vocalist, Cat Faulkner on July 3rd and 4th. For several years she was the lead vocalist for several prominent Society Orchestras, performing in Philadelphia, New York and Washington DC. More recently, you may have seen Cat performing throughout New England with The Capitol Jazz Orchestra, and with her trio Cat & The Rhythm Boys! Tix are $30 per person.
