Tune Up Your Holiday Spirit
At the Annual Holly Folly Festival
By Kahrin Deines
November 16th, 2008
December has a way of moving faster than other months. Between the parties, and the gifts and the cards, it flies by as fast as a sleigh drawn by reindeer. So fast, in fact, that it can feel like you never even had a chance to enjoy the ride.
 | Holly Folly weekend will take place from December 5 to 7. |

But every year there is one sure way to guarantee you’ll have a seat in the sleigh from the start: come to Provincetown for the annual “Holly Folly” weekend, which takes place this year from December 5 to 7. The weekend is organized by the Provincetown Business Guild, and it’s always a good way to get a jump on the holiday spirit, as well as the shopping.
For the weekend, a Holly Folly Trolley will be making loops of Provincetown’s Commercial Street, allowing shoppers to pile the gift purchases high without worrying about how to get from store to store.
And merrymaking will also be in abundance, as a number of parties, performances and other festive events are scheduled for the weekend.
The weekend’s highlight event – the annual Holly Folly performance by the Boston Gay Men’s Chorus – will take place on December 6, at two show times, 7 and 9 p.m. The concert is usually a sell-out, so it’s a good idea to visit www.ptown.org now and get your tickets.
The hipster horoscopists and comedians Starsky and Cox will also be performing at the Vixen’s Madeira Room, and favorite cabaret performer Brian Patton will in town to perform on the piano at The Crown and Anchor. And, of course, caroling will be in order as well, at two sing-a-longs with Casey and Denise at the Porchside Bar.
To bring some drama to the holiday mix, two plays will also be staged over the weekend. At the Provincetown Theater, Counter Productions is presenting Will Eno’s play “Thom Paine” with Tim Babcock. And at the Art House, a theater adaptation of David Sedaris’ hilarious work “SantaLand Diaries” will be performed.
Other events over the weekend include a Mr. and Mrs. Santa Photo-Op with photographer Brad Fowler, an afternoon tour of Provincetown’s lovely inns in all their holiday glory, and a “Festival of Trees” exhibit at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum, with trees designed by Marc Jacobs, Mary DeAngelis and more.
To find out more about the “Holly Folly” schedule or to buy tickets to the Boston Gay Men’s Chorus concert, go to www.ptown.org or call 800.637.8696.
