Notes from Lands End

Party Planning Provincetown Style

July 7th, 2014

July 12-20 Bear Week This honey infused festival of 8,000 portly, hirsute men with their slim, hairless otter friends descend upon 02657 to forage, drink and lay about in the sun.

Carnival 2014 Theme: Comic Book Capers. How Marvel-ous!

Provincetown Bears, would you make Goldilock’s t-shirts again? Please? One million men strong, the bear culture is a very generous crowd, with its own magazines and movies. Fascinating, Spock would say.

July 23-26 GirlSplash:PartyPlanner/Activist Lynnette Molnar does it again with an all-women’s version of Beach Blanket Bingo. Ladies meet up, break up, and thrill straight men and lesbians alike with kissing on the streets and wearing skimpy bikinis. This is a very good week to go on a bar crawl, with effusive bachelorette parties floating up and down Commercial Street.

July 26-August 2 Family Week: LGBT families honor the beautiful and daunting task of raising children with a week of all the outdoor activities that kids (and parents) could want. The weather is almost always warm and sunny. Camp Lightbulb supports Family Week by creating wonderful events like “flash singalong.”

August 16-22 Carnival Week: Voted the top Festival on Cape Cod by me and other fun aficionados, The Carnival Parade August 21st at 3PM (Snail Road going West) will be thrilling. A week before the big day, you can hear the sounds of saws, hammers and sewing machines making costumes and floats throughout town. The parade takes a few hours to wind through crowds reaching up to the beautiful dancers who throw beads between gyrations.

Carnival 2014’s theme: Comic Book Capers! Let’s guess. How many Wonder Women do you think we’ll see?

September 1 Labor Day: Provincetown’s reality shifts in four unique ways Labor Day weekend. 1. Townie Summer begins. 2. September is rich with weekend events. 3. There is a lovely chill in the night air. 4. A changing light begins with a luminescence on the water at sunset. Breathtaking!

The annual invitation-only White Party starts in the West End at Delft Haven, floating down to Tea Dance at the Boatslip Resort. Men in heels, boots that were made for walking and blonde bobs are ready for their close-up, Mr. Deville!
