An Exhibition by Alden Gallery

The Alden Gallery was launched on Thanksgiving weekend 2007 by Stephen Syta and Howard Karren. Both of our husbands, Joerg Dressler and Ed Christie, respectively, were artists, and we wanted to provide them with a venue to present their work in Provincetown, since we all lived here (Howard and Ed in Truro). But we wanted the Alden Gallery (named after Priscilla Alden Road, up the hill from us) to be more than just a vanity showcase, so we assembled a roster of about a dozen artists, many of whom have stayed with us over the last 18 years. The choice of artists reflected our eclectic tastes, but we both had a strong, rooted sense of the art colony here and its traditions, and we wanted to present relatively affordable work of high quality. The gallery — in the location of the Fowler Gallery and the short-lived Galleria Raffaello — was an immediate success. Stephen retired eight years ago, and now Howard is the sole owner and director. The 13 artworks selected for this provincetown.com show reflect the unique visions of the artists who we offer shows each season.
