An Exhibition by Jim Broussard

I am an oil painter, and I work en plein air (on site), year-round, in Provincetown, where I live. My work narrates the intersection of a particular time and place.

Whether I’m painting street scenes throughout the town or landscapes in the dunes of the Cape Cod National Seashore, my approach remains the same: I use layered brushstrokes and thin glazes with impasto on a grounded neutral surface. This technique is ideal for creating images within the short window of time afforded by working en plein air.

What I see and feel punctuates my work — pulses of light on the horizon are the undercurrents that make a quiet moment dance or that caress the image of a moving object.

I am painting a relationship: my relationship with Provincetown.
